I work in the public sector and cannot find an example of a WBS for a Building Construction project. I can find them for IT projects and have reviewed examples in the PMI documentation.
Typically we hire a prime consultant to prepare contract documents for us then go to pubilc tender to get the projects built. In an attempt to improve our project management practices, we have been asked to prepare WBS for our projects. Our projects range from under $5M for small building projects/renovations, to mid size $5-$50M to larger projects from $50M and up. The WBS would be prepared by our project managers as part of a Project Management Plan to help manage the scope and provide communication to our clients. The WBS would not be used to drive scope or budget, as these are prepared by our consultants and contractors. No I have not. All I have prepared is more of a task list by phase, to show our clients where we are in the process, (not started, in progress and complete) what is next and what has yet to be done; a kind of project status graphically. They seem to like it but it's not a true WBS. Saving Changes...
