Have you taken the exam? Passed? Failed? Failed and then passed?

Help out a fellow project manager and post your tip on studying for and taking the exam. Here are some we''ve gathered from members so far:

J.l Laroche: Try not to try to absorb all the PMBOK content by heart, focus on the main stream of processes and knowledge, the tools and the results and you will be fine don''t worry. remember to get first through all questions, answering the evident ones and flagging the others and then get back to the flagged ones, and think of it, even if you''re unsure of the answer, always, always pick one, if you''re wrong you will not loose points and you have 1 on 4 chances to get it good...

M. Hartsough: When reviewing those questions you flagged, don''t start second-guessing yourself. IMO, in all probability your initial answer was correct. Don''t change your original answers unless you definitely found a better one. Remember to answer from the "PMI Perspective". The PMI Perspective isn''t necessarily how you or your organization manages projects.

F. McCaskell: take a break every 50 questions - no matter if you don''t think you need it. This will prevent you from being burned out at the end.

C.Tong: don''t think the exam is easy or you won''t prepare yourself well

Please recommend an exam simulator, asking specially those who took the PMP exam in the last 30 days or so.

Cheers,

Try Praizion.com site the questions are very realistic and little tough to pass the exam.
Once you clear the mocks test definitely you have a bright chance to clear the main exam.

Cheers

Hi All-Ustaadhi,

You can go to Amazon.com or go to rmcproject.com for Rita's book, and velociteach.com for Andy's book.

I STRONGLY recommend buying exam simulator and taking at least 20 full 4 hour exams before you take the final exam.

Best of luck...!!!

Hi all,
I’d like to start this message with my humble gratitude to one and all, who have helped and assisted me in all the possible ways and thereby making me believe more in myself and clear the PMP exam on March 13th.

It was my first attempt. One of the major reasons for my success is the lessons learned from this thread itself. I’ve read through almost the whole of it and it did help me get positive outcome. I’ll also add my points as well.
The following are the points which I’d recommend.
1. Made a study plan and scheduled it, including off days as well.
2. Scheduled the chapters of PMBOK in order, allowing around 2-3 days minimum, with 4hrs per day.
3. Made a list of the Processes and ITTOS and pasted it on the walls around my desk, which helped in remembering them better.
4. But, later on got better since understanding the processes made the whole remembering part quite easier.
5. Repeated the same process again, along with noting down the major points on paper.
6. Meanwhile, attempted some questions as well, from a few android apps, which had the feature for selecting the required chapter for answering. The major apps which I used are enlisted below.
7. Evaluated the results of these trial runs and went through the portions which I got wrong.
8. Re-did the tests.
9. After the second run of PMBOK, I opted for RMC PMP exam prep 8th edition, which was the best choice I had made recently. ?
10. RMC helped a lot more than I ever expected. The chapters were explained quite well and I got a better understanding of the PMBOK with the help of RMC.
11. The end of chapter questions and the exercises were equally helpful and helped me assess myself.
12. There are a number of detailed explanations in RMC which are not present in PMBOK.
13. Along with this, I started attempting longer tests on the apps, which provided detailed explanations for the answers and the reference in PMBOK pages, which were really helpful.
14. Used to note down the terms which I had not come over earlier, and had doubts upon. After completing the tests I made up notes on those terms.
15. Attempted the Oliver Lehmann 75 Qs and 175 Qs.
16. On the last day, went through the notes and the terms noted, and had a good night’s sleep.
Finally, believe in yourself.

That’s all from my side.

Note: The exam questions were mostly related to change management.
The apps :
i. PMP Lite Exam
ii. PMP Exam Study
iii. PMP Exam Simulator
iv. PMP – Project Management
v. PMP – Exam Questions
vi. PMP – Practice Questions 2018.

Good drive for tips to the PMP Aspirants!!
One should read PMBOK guide (6th edition just after March 26th, 2018) thoroughly at first.
Second, s/he should go thru' Question sets of PMP exam.

I won't be able to point to any particular question set but one should be able to find it online or in his/her group, asking personally.
One can revise PMBOK guide(say overview, in case of time running out).
Then again, come back to a fresh question sets.

The type of questions asked in exam checks your ITTO knowledge.
Secondly, questions are case study based.
Formula based questions come next.
No need to learn anything exactly by heart(except formulae) but your practice should be such that it must get you to correct answer.

Most of the time, I felt two out of four answer options are correct.
But your knowledge and study must get you thru' to the correct answer.

I don't put the exam as either easy or difficult but one needs to prepare exactly around PMBOK guide and more & more question sets.
One can not know the result unless & until efforts are tried out!!

Finally, All The Best!!

Just took the exam yesterday. Did not pass. I wrote down the entire process groupd and knowledge area chart, jotted down most, if not all of the EVM equations (note this was done once the exam clock started). It did not help me at all save for one or two questions on EVM. I also ran out of time leaving about 8-9 questions unanswered that I probably could have answered had I not spent the 15 or so minutes writing down the Process Groups and Knowledge areas. Most of the questions are situational..what should the project manager have done better, etc. I think comitting the ITTO's to memory would have been a more valuable approach to answer these. Also knowing exactly what each output consists of and its purpose is a recommendation. I thought I had a decent grasp. I was completely wrong.
Hi,
I hope while taking the exam you have used the marker ( to strike off the wrong answers)and the selection tool ( to highlight the imp. areas of question) - these tools save lot of time.

Sharing my experience -
Have not brain dumped the formulas in the sheet as it wastes lots of time.
Completed all 200 questions in 3.5 hours without taking any break (though it was bit stressful, as i was bit nervous about finishing the paper)
Last 0.5 hour i spent in revising at least 70 questions.
Practised 2 paid simulators - PMZest and PM PrepCast ( that helped me to clear my concepts) . Free simulators will not help anyway - its just for your practice only.

Best of Luck !!!
