Have you taken the exam? Passed? Failed? Failed and then passed?
Help out a fellow project manager and post your tip on studying for and taking the exam. Here are some we''ve gathered from members so far:
J.l Laroche: Try not to try to absorb all the PMBOK content by heart, focus on the main stream of processes and knowledge, the tools and the results and you will be fine don''t worry. remember to get first through all questions, answering the evident ones and flagging the others and then get back to the flagged ones, and think of it, even if you''re unsure of the answer, always, always pick one, if you''re wrong you will not loose points and you have 1 on 4 chances to get it good...
M. Hartsough: When reviewing those questions you flagged, don''t start second-guessing yourself. IMO, in all probability your initial answer was correct. Don''t change your original answers unless you definitely found a better one. Remember to answer from the "PMI Perspective". The PMI Perspective isn''t necessarily how you or your organization manages projects.
F. McCaskell: take a break every 50 questions - no matter if you don''t think you need it. This will prevent you from being burned out at the end.
C.Tong: don''t think the exam is easy or you won''t prepare yourself well Saving Changes...
Just passed the exam myself on 19th June and thought I'd share my thoughts.
Firstly, try and dedicate regular time each week to study. What text-books you use or courses you watch isn't as important as actually making sure you make time to study.
As for my individual prep, I had done a PMP Exam prep course back in January, so had a lot of coursework from that to go over. Weekly, my study group went over the Rita questions in the 9th Edition of her book.
Leading up to the exam, I watched a PMP Exam Prep course on Lynda.com which is highly recommended if you have access to Lynda.com as it really solidified a lot of my knowledge and boosted my confidence.
If you can, take the week leading up to the exam off to do final study, and also to relax and mentally prepare yourself for the exam.
As for the exam itself, take your time, and as has previously been advised, take a mental break after every 50 questions. I found taking a 2-3 minute pause and meditating/praying/thinking happy thoughts, helped. Saving Changes...
I have passed PMP exam on first attempt on 5th edition on last October, Most important thing to be prepared for the exam with the studying PMBOK very well it was my only reference and to solve sample exams as you can as those exams well practice you for the real test. I have prepared my self for like 2.5 months and try to calm down in the exam and be sure you can do it. Most important thing is not to memories ITTO and the whole PMBOK you have to understand the whole content and to think as a big Project Manager in the exam. Try to have a quick look for the answer before read the questions twice it will save time.
Good luck all it was a memorable moment when I have passed and I was so proud of my self. Saving Changes...
Hi All,
I had taken up the PMP exam on 28th Jun'18; I didn't pass. It was the toughest paper one could ever receive; I am preparing for the second attempt.
Can someone please suggest what references other than PMBOK, 6th edition I can refer to clear the exam, I have also solved many sample question papers but it was of no use. What other study materials are used to clear it. Can anyone please assist me on this?

Hi Subhasis,
It's Ok it happened to all!! First read exam outline again, read PMBOK deeply very very well, concentrate topics like stakeholder, communication, risk, practice not less than 3000 questions and the best websites are : PMSTUDY, PMPRECAST & Udemy. Solve questions very well and learn your mistakes. Then relax and sleep well!!!
I know the PMP is not easy trip, So, you should study hard.
Good luck!!!

There was only one question on critical path, that's it, other than that only 4-5 numerical on EVM.
There were so many question which said 'how you would have avoided the situation' and I think rest of the questions were so tricky and difficult that I couldn't get hold of even a single one saying ohh, I know this.
E.g. there was a question which said "a senior member from your team has left the project, what will you update?"
Many questions were related to stake holders, quality processes.
