Have you taken the exam? Passed? Failed? Failed and then passed?
Help out a fellow project manager and post your tip on studying for and taking the exam. Here are some we''ve gathered from members so far:
J.l Laroche: Try not to try to absorb all the PMBOK content by heart, focus on the main stream of processes and knowledge, the tools and the results and you will be fine don''t worry. remember to get first through all questions, answering the evident ones and flagging the others and then get back to the flagged ones, and think of it, even if you''re unsure of the answer, always, always pick one, if you''re wrong you will not loose points and you have 1 on 4 chances to get it good...
M. Hartsough: When reviewing those questions you flagged, don''t start second-guessing yourself. IMO, in all probability your initial answer was correct. Don''t change your original answers unless you definitely found a better one. Remember to answer from the "PMI Perspective". The PMI Perspective isn''t necessarily how you or your organization manages projects.
F. McCaskell: take a break every 50 questions - no matter if you don''t think you need it. This will prevent you from being burned out at the end.
C.Tong: don''t think the exam is easy or you won''t prepare yourself well Saving Changes...
I took my PMP exam on 21st March and failed. I called PMI and they given me 90 days Extension. Now I have time until 5th July.
I am not very confident to go for exam on 5th July because of PMBOK 6. I lost even interest as well after failing my PMP exam.
I need some suggestion:
1. Should I wait for few more month and go for new application as it will give me 1 year time again ? It will cost me 405$.OR
2. Should I give 2nd try but i have 54 days only left? It will cost me 275$.
I already purchased PMBOK 6 and now planning to buy Rita Mulchay 9ed.
What is the best option I should select?
Thanks in Advance for all your suggestion.
Regards,
Shashi Saving Changes...

Utilize the first 15 minutes which is given to get familiarized with the system to write down all the important formulas/things which you can''t remember for a long time on the paper so that you can free up your mind and concentrate on the questions.

Hallo everybody,
I passed the exam on the first try last May 8th in Milan (Italy), just a few days ago. I started studying last year on October with a three-month training course provided by local Order of Engineers.
I studyed PMBOK 6th edition and tried answering questions of PMP Exam Prep Boot Camp by Richard Perrin and PMP Exam Practice Test and Study by Ward-Levin (unfortunately both based on PMBOK 5th).
I think the most important thing is not doing a lot of exercises but getting practice in logic connections.
Good luck!

Focus on stakeholders. It seemed like about 70 to 80 questions were some variation of "Stakeholder X is upset because they werent informed about Product Y and now it does not have some of the requirements he needs. What could you have done to avoid this situation?"
Also Planning and Initiating are big parts of the exam, Charters, WBS, Kickoff Meetings, and make sure you know the chronology of events before and after the Charter has been approved

I took the exam the first time without studying for it based on the belief that the exam would validate my experience working in the profession. I was 99% correct, I missed passing the exam by a single point. It was some of the terminology used that set me back. So I went back and read the PMBOK and got the terminology down, and did very well on the next exam. So, I guess my tip would be to at least read the PMBOK. Saving Changes...
