I always think that though i am working as a project manager i may not get a chance to work in all aspects of the project management and may not get much experience.

So I am just thinking about what are the other ways to improve the project management skills than actual job.

Any inputs on this?

Thanks
Bala

Learning from lessons learnt of others is a best practice. Resources such as this one will help in osmotic learning. http://www.projectmanagement.com/books/310...Journey-of-a-PM

Osmotic learning?

If only. I could sleep on top of the PMBOK and BAM, immediate expert.

With basics in place, in order to develop skills, I find the best way is to expose oneself again and again to real lifetime situations.... esp. the weaker areas. Initial losses are investments for the future.

And one way to do that is volunteering, attending conferences and take deep dives into real time project management work.

I think you hit on something big Gopal. The basics in place.

It's surprising how often that fundamental task is not properly appreciated.
