From your experience:

1- How does PMI-SP compare to PMP in terms of study time and exam difficulty ?
2- Any recommended references to study from for the exam ?
3- Any any other general recommendations ?

Hi Rami, First my all the best to you for selecting PMP and PMI-SP. Both are useful to me.
Source : PMBOK the Best.
Comparing PMP, PMI-SP is bit difficult its my point of you. You have work hard for PMI-SP as there is not much of resources available.

Thanks Ganesh - I am not trying to compare PMP and SP. i already completed my PMP and will go for my SP soon. I was just deciding whether to do SP or RMP.

PMBOK and Rita's Book are more than enough I guess for planning if you have experience so will base my studies on this.

I did complete my SP and am going for the RMP. Here is a little bit of my experience going for the SP. (Thank you to Bharat for the questions.)

Q: What material did I use?
A: I reviewed the PMI-SP Credential Handbook and the PMI-SP Exam Content Outline. At the time, the Practice Standard for Scheduling was not available. I also re-read the PMBOK's section on time management.

Q: How is the exam as compared to PMP?
A: The PMI-SP exam is pretty well the same as the PMP. Of course, the difference is that the focus is only on time management but in much more detail. Be prepared: you will have a lot of network diagram questions.

Q: How much study is required?
A: Besides reading the above material, I purchased PMI-SP mock exam questions a week before my exam and spent pretty well every evening running through the questions and exams. That, to me, was what helped the most in passing the exam.

In case anyone is interested, the reason I pursued the PMI-SP was becaused I had become an ad hoc project scheduling SME at work.

Obtaining my certification allowed me to make my expertise visible to a greater audience.
