I once saw on a LinkedIn Forum the difference between a Boss and a Leader.

A good leader:

Coaches the project team (instead of driving it)
Generates enthusiasm (instead of inspiring fear)
Says we (instead of I)
Asks (instead of commanding)
Says let's go (instead of go)

Therefore, the best type of leadership is at the end to act like a leader and not like a boss (i.e. dictatorship style)

Collaborative leadership, because it motivates the team at maximum level in my opinion and you can take the best out of every team member.
From time to time you have to change your style to adapt to new situations so it can be like mounir wrote more a situational approach in some cases.

Hello,

Mounir already answered it, short and precisely as usual ... ;)
There is no general "best" leadership style. It always depends on the situation! A good leader have all the different leadership styles in his arsenal and applys the best fitting to the specific situation.

Just my 2 cents ...

Situational leadership is adaption of all leadership style in accordance with your conditions.
By the definition it looks very simple and wonderful, Like a solution to all problems.

Many type of leadership styles are written by many great management authors. However, each leader has own personality through which he leads the team.

Is collaborative or visionary or situational leadership you found better in your life?

Servant Leadership. The style is about the organizational culture most of the times.

I find a mixture of situational and servant leadership usually serves me well. In emergency situations, benevolent dictatorship might be needed.

I could't define me a leader at the moment, I can say that I'm studying to become a leader (always considering that is possible to become a leader and it isn't a natural talent). Anyway I have always preferred and practiced a collaborative leadership but in the last period I'm re-evaluating that because seems that the persons misuse of it and want to argue each decision or proposal. Unfortunately passing from a collaborative leadership to a less collaborative leadership is always more difficult than passing from a dictature to a collaborative leadership. Probably this is not the answer that Pankaj wanted but this is my own experience.
