There are many instances wherein team mate will say, you don't know, this is how to do it or the consultant/contractor will say " this is the ONLY way to do it".
Unfortunately, both do not see the big picture and one has to decide what is right and go ahead. Later, everyone will say this was wrong and so on. Still one has to retain the composure and bide for the time.
Such instances requires self awareness, self control and social skills. This was practiced many times and demand occurs regularly.
In addition, when you have to engage with a stakeholder and listen to him/her patiently to all their list of errors and when one asks them, propose the solution, most of the time, there is no clear and single answer. At such situation, such individual should be asked to be in the forefront and watch how the individual handles self.
Hi Rami
You have to find it yourself by engaging in the process and you will discover wherein lies emotional intelligence.

Hi Balaji,
You are right but I myself discovered this long time ago and so often use it. I would like to reiterate again that the purpose behind my question is to hear your experience through an example that happened with you on your projects. The purpose behind the question is definitely not, to know how to use it and know what it is, I can read a book if I want to know this. I thought others experience in this sensitive subject would be interesting and add value beause everyone has his or her own approach when it comes to emotional inteligence, it is not a set procedure that you follow.

few years back , we had groups formed within team like senior vs junior, experienced vs non-experienced , technical groups
and conflicts started ,hindering work
we identified few are having less understanding about EI and team work
we hired consultant company and they suggested EI workshop
In workshop they explained about EI , also did team building activities , self assessment activities on EI
After 3 months there was follow-up one day work shop, to see if it benefited individually
These workshops increased more understanding as team , less egos and less conflicts
Conflicts started to limit at professional level and not getting at personal level
also decreased employee turnover.

Emotional Intelligence is the capability to identify, assess, and manage the personal emotions of oneself and other people, as well as the collective emotions of groups of people.
Goleman describes EI as "managing feelings so that they are expressed appropriately and effectively, enabling people to work together smoothly toward their common goals." According to Goleman, the four major skills that make up emotional intelligence are:
• Self-Awareness
• Self-Management
• Social Awareness
• Relationship Management
