I have a group of students heading to take the CAPM test, but when they found out they had to take the test over again to get re-certified, they are wondering if they should wait, get their requirements ready to take the PMP.
In Summary, none of the students (new practitioners) wants to take a CAPM every three years to get re-certified.
thank you so much for your kindness.
I have big plans for projectmanagement.plus but unfortenatly i could only work on it in my spare time and spare time is rare this time ... ;)
But theire are some great things in the pipeline, so best is you do register (for free) and stay tuned.

I am new to this site, and I am enjoying this conversation. I am currently 50% thru PMP school designed for Cert. Testing in CAPM and PMP. It is incredible what I can compare from having managed projects in past, and what the guidelines are from PMBOK as to what SHOULD be done. STUDYING is all I am doing ! Taking test questions and applying to real world past and current, is great!
I personally will be studying to take my CAPM first. PMP test is longer and more indepth. so I want to keep absorbing info.
Besides, I am unemployed and $$$ are hard to find to pay for PMI membership then CAPM test registration.
Any advice on what I should look for as work, since I don't have PMBOK actual experience, nor CERT stat?

Thanks. I see PMs as the SGT MAJ of a unit. He/She is on the front line. Other SGMs confer with each other, and help cross-train troops. Experience yields the biggest reward but education is primary. The students above need to be told they MUST study study every week before taking CAPM. ay the money, save up and don't drink that week! Don't smoke! I know it will be worth it for myself. But as PMs, we also MUST INFLUENCE the cultural mentality in the USA that allows Upper Management to dissolve our moral by letting shareholders NOT Stakeholders and consumers, motivate their outsourcing and lay-offs! And when min wage goes to $15 an hr for as burger king worker, and I work on a project for Bristol Myers at $14.50, what is my real life incentive? I'll just work a fast food line to make my wages. NO quality of workers. Look at the PMBOK in section 9 for Human Resources... how can we instill pride when no one is getting work or barely makes a living wage?
PMs are at the forefront of this economic battle, and we should really band together to influence the Corporate Culture. Nothing worse than hearing a CIO complain he has been out of work for 9 months while many of us are at 10-18. Entitlements and parachutes drive shareholder dividends and it shouldn't be that way.
Look at Verizon now. They will hire scabs because shareholders know that the costs are actually better for them to lose all these workers and gain temporary workers. That's in PMBOK KA 7. Doing the EV and EACs and then seeing the strike and work on FIOS lines being postponed, means shareholders will make more profit by this strike.
Sorry for going on. Have to study.
FYI, I apologize if I do not accept some network association requests. I am more interested in the USA PMs who need to network, not BADGES. Saving Changes...

Back to the conversation, I'm proud to say that most of students who followed our advise to take the CAPM exam first had sucessfully approved.
Great network, I've learn a lot from this thread..
Great news George ... Best of Luck Saving Changes...

We are looking at encouraging our university/college students to test for the CAPM while they are still in school. They then graduate with a professional certification under their "belts', have access to great networking that can land them an entry-level job, and can be accumulating some PM hours during their coursework projects.
The CAPM is a great way to imprint the PMBOK Guide data and allow some practicum with it prior to tackling the PMP or other PMI certifications. The PMP may not be the road a CAPM wants to pursue next, but one of the other certs might be more applicable. Saving Changes...
