First of all you have to understand what a methodology really is. After that you have to perform an activity named "needs analysis" which is a component of the business analysis discipline. To perform that I use the Tom Peter“s Seven S model to evaluate how your enterprise architecture is today to understand if it is ready to implement a methdology. Whit this tool you can perform a gap analysis between the as-is and the to-be. With the gap on hand you will get the business requirements which are what is needed to implement a methodology and you can decide about the methology you will implement. If you do not analyze your situation in this way or any other way you will fail no matter the methdology you select. And more important once is: what does mean "successful" for you and your stkeholders (those that will be impacted by the methodology)?. Successful has a lot of ambiguity because it is a subjective matter term.
