How has the PgMP certification helped you with your job, career etc.? Given the elaborate certification process and costs involved, I am looking for insight on the difference PgMP made for you (especially if you were already PMP certified prior to PgMP).

(This is a repost since there weren't many responses when I posted last month... Thanks.)

George and Michelle:

As I mentioned, this question is a repost... Thomas Walenta just posted the following response to my original post:

The PgMP I got in 2014 after retirement helped me in these ways...
1. learning for it extended dramatically my knowledge and understanding of program and benefits management, as projects continue to go wrong, even if they deliver in time&budgets, I believe they should be run a programs
2. there are not many companies that understand and look for that knowledge, most are still struggling with traditional and technical project management, so it is a small market for PgMPs, but if you have a client you can excel
3. with still less than 2000 PgMPs, you can say that a PgMP is a unique and rare animal - if you want to stand out, go for it

There are 569 members on this site that have a PgMP... I am hoping for additional responses from other PgMPs as well.

Hello everyone, Thanks for posting this. While I see many people are perusing this I still do not see any appetite in the corporate world for the designation. Not that I am trying to devalue the designation but I was keen to peruse this after having PMP for more than 12 year. With my research did not see that much interest in the market yet...I am happy to hear from others

Hi team. Great to see this thread. At my firm we have a plethora of PMPs and few PgMP's so I'm niw considering ROI. Need to discuss with my leadership , but glad to see your feedback now that PgMP has been around for almost a decade. Personally, I work more in the portfolio MGMT area , so I'm also looking at that possibility. Keep the feedback coming! All the best.

Samuel, thanks for posting. I took the plunge and signed up for the PgMP course this past weekend from a PMI provider. Was on the fence about doing it, but am interested in seeing the additional responses to your question.
