My project scope is to migrate legacy system that heavily rely on keyboard navigation to new system that rely on mouse and keyboard for screen navigation.1 week of user training and 2 weeks testing have been planned in project scope too.

We foresee users will have steep learning curve to use the new system and they might reluctant change to new system. Please advise any idea we can mitigate on this risk and contingency plan? Your own experiences & comment are welcome.

Thank you.

I am an ancient man so I have faced this type of situations due to the change of technology. The problem is not the change between keyboard and mouse. The problem is the UI. You need to keep the same functionality that your users had when they used the keyboard (key convinations, key shortcuts, etc). And you have to keep (if possible) the same places to find things to do inside the new interface. Perhaps, it is late to have this on consideration but this is the big problem to face. If it is too late then you have to decide between to implement the new interface by revolution or by evolution. Evolution is the path you are taking today. Revolution is making a cut to use the new system in the short time you can. What it is important to decide about how to migrate is the function involved. For example, I faced the situation where the new interface belongs to the production system so to make a revolution there was not the best way to do things. So, what I tried to say, is facing this situations demmads to make an strategy that is far from the learning curve or the method to use to teach the new interface.

It sounds like you need to include organizational change management in your project, or at least in parallel.

There are methodologies and processes associated with this type of change management that should be considered to help make this a success.

Consider having a Change Manager on your team to lead this effort.

Dear Stephane, please could you share more with me about the change management processes? Or any where I could refer to about this processes?

Based on the current project budget, I don't think they have enough of budget to get a separate Change Manager. I believe this role will be taken by the business user project manager.
