Depending on the context, Project Initiator could be Sponsor or Customer or senior mgmt or someone else also. But there is a definite meaning of term 'Project Sponsor'.

Malik - I read your blog.

So you're saying that a Project Initiator is not necessarily a project sponsor and that a project sponsor could also be your own customer?

Aside from that, I'm trying to find specific examples of Initiators that are not Sponsor.

Thanks for your help...

In PMI's context, Project Initiator has no special meaning. Some other standards may assign it a special meaning. Hope it helps.
