From my experience in handling my clients and communication -
1. Being virtual teams we used conference calls and online meetings. The way we are having SCRUM, need of video along with voice conference is increasing. There are companies in US who are still using online meeting or conference calls for discussions where without face to face interaction many things are missed.
2. For requirement understanding, I personally believe conference calls are not useful as those has to be time-bound. Here in-person interaction is the best way where if you have query you can walk and make it clear. I believe online chat or collaboration tools may play role to some extent. I have seen resources have important query but it gets dumped into unknown place due to wait for the next day conference call.
3. Another tool could one quick note where everyone can put points which they want to discuss on shareable platform and the resources joining can come to conference calls with the proactive preparation. I believe MS one-note is similar tool.
there are plenty of tools which can be used to make the distributed team works smoothly. Challenge is Enterprise Organizations are providing a big tools where only one module is useful. We should have option of using different tools from diff vendors with plug-in and plug-out options. Saving Changes...
