Hello All,
Recently got an opportunity to discuss with one of my team member about him being moving into a PMO role. He said he will be working on every aspect of project management (like finance, resource, risk, etc, etc). After this I got some queries and so would like to know your comments on the same.
1. Can there be career as PMO professional ? Will this lead to any substantial knowledge gain or to any important position in the organization ?
2. How different it is from Project Manager's role involving project management ? I mean will he work only as a supervisor and make sure that policies are followed, plans are made, etc by project manager ?
3. How good it will be for career growth in project management ?
4. Plus your experience being a PMO professional if any Saving Changes...

there is no way to answer this question properly without specifics - since there could be tens of variations and variables such as:
1. Type of organization
2. Organization culture
3. Organization structure
4. PMO mandate
5. PMO roles
6. Project manager role
7. HR formal roles for pm people
8. Does the organization have career ladders?
9. If yes, dual ladders or single ladders?
10. the person interest and motivation
11. the person skills and willingness to grow
