treat this as a project and analyze who are the key stakeholders, communication strategy, risks, gather the required data and discuss with the target audience.

1) Identify key stakeholders (not all)
2) give them a brief of what you are doing and how
3) Show them the reports, for e.g for cost and schedule management you can present EVM data.
4) For risk you can show risk probability/impact matrix.
5) For resource you can show resource utilization graph
6) At last show what was missing in the current management way

Hugh question to answer in few space. You have to sell project management to the top level management if you consider is good for you and your organization. Lot of people love lot of things but when they have to do the effort to make it a reality the love is lost. My recommendation is to follow some selling methdology. I am not a seller. But the methodogy that helps me a lot is "Sollution Selling" or "SPIN Selling" which works on "the pain" to make things happend not because you say but because the people who are experiencing "the pain" visualize the solution thanks to work with the method.

Thato, I would start with this as the starting point. Current issues and problems may be the best way to get attention - of course you need to communicate how Project Management solves them.

Once you get the attention, you can discuss more benefits beyond just 'issue fixing/avoidance'.

Do you have weekly reports ? If you have it, please write in certain way that you meet the expectations of each of the Stakeholders. You can go through the stakeholder management process area in PMBOK and check the blogs on reporting.

Newsletter, or one time e-mail news post. Tell about what your team is doing and how it benefits the company. Don't talk about yourself, talk about your team members. Stay humble. The time to talk about yourself is after the project is complete, and hopefully within budget and on-scope.

Thato, as you say you are a "young professional" in a functional environment so you may not even have access to the people who you really need to reach. Even if you do it's obvious you aren't being heard or you wouldn't have asked for help. What you need is a senior level sponsor or champion.

As stated above, identify your key stakeholders, find the most senior person you can access who feels as you do and ask to work together. That person should have access to the functional levels that can make a difference. Offer to do the work, let them take the credit if necessary. Just be patient and persistent. Corporate change does not happen fast.

Thank you Rick, that is the exact situation i am in. I am continuously providing communications with the hopes of it reaching the decision making levels. I think your advice is most valued, i am seeing that corporate change takes time.

One other suggestion is to try and show that the methodology you follow provides value. Even if you just use your lessons learned from one project and show that by applying them to a follow-on project made that second project more efficient, less issues etc. Just make it objective and measurable like "By applying the lessons learned we were able to decrease our outage window by 20%...."

Make the project a success and insure good reporting, communication etc.
That will make the best demonstration of how it would help the organisation.
Lessons learned could also document some organisation structure that help and those that don't
