I would like to know the best way to approach making my management of projects more visable, to an organization that loves the idea of project management, but operate within a functional structure?

Being a younger professional, it seems a much tougher task to manage make the management of projects visible at the correct leave?

* Does one highlight what benefits of what good management does by highlighting its success?
* Do i highlight the issues with our current methods of managing these projects?
* Any other possible suggestions would help assist .

How do i highlight the importance of project management to the correct stakeholders?

Thank you Rick, that is the exact situation i am in. I am continuously providing communications with the hopes of it reaching the decision making levels. I think your advice is most valued, i am seeing that corporate change takes time.

One other suggestion is to try and show that the methodology you follow provides value. Even if you just use your lessons learned from one project and show that by applying them to a follow-on project made that second project more efficient, less issues etc. Just make it objective and measurable like "By applying the lessons learned we were able to decrease our outage window by 20%...."

Did you consider this part of your stakeholder management plan? Maybe you can't reach the needed people directly. At least, you should have a plan to get the information to them via other stakeholders.

Now comes the hard part: when you give your intermediary stakeholders their status report, make sure it is summarized in a way that they will want to pass it on to the ones above. As others have already mentioned, everybody loves to report good news to higher levels. Your job is to frame your reports as something worthy of being moved up the ladder. (Hint: ask your intermediary stakeholders what format would make it easier for them to move your reports.)
