I have seen lots of comments indicating the challenges Brazil have facing hosting the Olympics. Please comment on this if you wish. But....

I have not seen many comments on the POSITIVE aspects of hosting such a great event. In terms of project opportunities and the expectation that it will contribute to the country growth as financial investments will benefit the country once Olympics is over.

Great opportunity for Projects, Project Managers and the country Project Management itself.

I agree with Ivo Vasconcelos when he says this huge Event will leave behind a rich pool of lessons to be learned. And I add to that saying that these lessons will not only be in the hosting and infrastructure area directly related to the the Games, but it will be carved in the brazilian“s heart, especially people from Rio de Janeiro.

Brazil is going through what some economists use to call a perfect storm. And, not to get into the political and economic talk, I just say that these political/economical problems, together with the rights and wrongs about hosting the Olympics, will be forever remembered by the people.

I strongly believe that we are going to enter in a new era in Brazil when it comes to federal investments and intervention. I think that we are going to become more liberals regarding P3 business and some labor by laws, openning a very positive and full of hope way to do business in our country.

But I think this will mature during the next 2 years, and we will start to harvest some beneficts only next year.

So, answering your main question, I believe that our profession will be even more needed for the time to come, but it will be a slow rising.

I hope this helps you a little. =)

Best regards.

The contribution of project management is critical in the race against time. A few days to the start of the event, there are still works in progress. I agree with some comments on the following aspects: the event will leave a legacy a wide range of lessons learned, however, given the size and priorities of the country, financial investments little help, since they are concentrated in Rio de Janeiro and do not meet the wishes of much of the population .

I live exactely in front of where the games will happen at Barra da Tijuca. The place has changed a lot and actually we have more options of transportation available. After the games will see if it works.

Hi George! Thank you for the opportunity!

Yes, Brazil is facing a lot of challenges in build a entire environment for the 2016 Olympic Games, and we have the muslims extremists putting entire world and the olympic comitees in jeopardy.

There are a lot of projects, in course, starting, finishing, and all of them will let a legacy of infrastructure -- The Olympic Village is almost finished, just some details have to be finished -- and cultural diversity for my country and my people.
Brasil is a young country, which have a young culture, if some one compare these with European countries and cultures. Hence, we (brazilian people) have a lot of work to do and a lot of challenges to overcome, but we will do this. Even the terrorists menaces are being trated as proactively as we can.

I can't say that there will be no problems, but I can promise that all problems will be handled, if no solved.

Once more, thank you very much.

Good lucky in your journey to get more information about 2016 Olympic Games!

Maybe greatest legacy of the Olympics is for the residents of the city of Rio de Janeiro, this legacy in modal transport links through the town planning. Where the challenge was in passiencia having construction site that impacted on their day every day.

Some large engineering companies only put one more big project in its portfolio.

For the country, Brazil, is the story of having organized a large one more big events as another already organized.

I don“t believe Brazil to get real benefits. you can see the information in all news. Really disappointing, the Olympic Village intended for accommodation of athletes received complaints by finishing problems and water leaks from the delegations of Australia, Argentina and Sweden refuse to stay on site.
A cost 5 (five) times higher than the original forecast, the amount paid by the government to use the village jumped from R $ 51 million to R $ 254.9 million.
The works were made by Odebrecht and Hosken with a total cost of R $ 2.9 billion, financed by Caixa Federal - Government Bank, noting that Marcelo Odebrecht l owner of the company, is arrested because milhonarias paid bribes to Brazilian government corruption.
There is no Ethics Management and Project Professional management , and political and private companies take advantage to get absurd and dishonest profits. Projects do not end in scope, cost, and planned term and hidden extra cost of super sized and even unneeded works.
Since the beginning has questioned the proposal because this design of the Olympic city trouce urban segregation and favoring particular interests and also to make high standard facilities for delegations at a level never seen before in the history of the Games in the world today we see we deliver the works with leakage problems in plumbing, gas, sewer throughout the athletes' village.
We hope that we could change all of that, also with the research called "Lavajato" can clean up the public administration. A dream that can and must be true!

My brother in law lives in Rio de Janeiro and he is very haapy with new transportation facilities and urbanistic redesign in same areas. He is not so happy with a lot of vacations and holidays. He loves sports, specally football (soccer) but he can not explain anything about the games properlly. I think his mind is a summary about what is the game: a ggod chance to Rio de Janeiro citizens get some infrastructure for their lives, a big cost for all brazilian citizens and nothing relevant to Brazil sport practice.

The Olympic Games is a very complex matter to Brazil. We could talk for hours about this. To be brief, in my opinion, there was a lot of opportunities for project managers in the whole period before the Olympics, mostly concentrated in Rio de Janeiro state.
The big problem is the very poor economic situation of Brazil. Most people don't believe that Brazil will have great benefits after the Olympics due to political and economic dificulties. I think that great experiences and practices will remain from the Olympics projects, but if don't used soon in other projects, will be forgotten / outdated.

Yes. I think there will be benefits to PMs from the experience of leading Olympics mega projects with the particularities of Rio de Janeiro / Brasil. In the next months surely there will be seminars with the PMs who led projects in the Olympics and they will have lots of lessons learned to present. About new projects after the games, i think there will be some projects related to the Olympics, but i really don't know if we will have several new projects all over the country seizing the practices, experiences and even the PMs, because of the present economic situation.
