I would like to know if some of you belongs and participate actively in your local chapters. I've share my comments with my international colleagues and friends, and I've discover that the activities, events, or networking is very different from one country to another.

There are local chapters more actives than others. people more involved than others.

Share your experience!

I don't belong to any local chapter. Nor do I participate in their activities. I feel that the activities conducted by PMI is good enough to go for.

I have belonged to two chapters but now belong to the one that is closest to my province. This year my chapter started to offer events in our vicinity. After attending a few of them, I offered to do a local presentation, then did my presentation at the chapter's Professional Development Days.

I do belong to a local chapter. Southern Germany Chapter spans a wide area, so I attended some meetings at different places. I even helped to organize speakers for an evening talk.
I like the "local" exchange, the discussions and the networking face to face.
The forums here at projectmanagement.com are great - they help to get exchange with the world. So both parts are valuable and have their share.

I have belonged to a local chapter (helping charter the first one) for ~20 years. My level of activity has waxed and waned over the years based on life stages and level of interest in activities offered, amount of available free time, etc. It was very fulfilling to support the establishment of a chapter and development of a strong foundation for its success.
I have since moved and belong to a fairly active chapter. One activity I like a lot is to participate as a judge for our chapter's Project of the Year competition. Several winners have gone on to be finalists (and I think at least one winner) of the international Project of the Year competition offered by PMI.

I belong to my local chapter and on a semi-regular basis, look to see if there is an event/dinner. Ultimately, my goal is to be an active member.
