I would like to know if some of you belongs and participate actively in your local chapters. I've share my comments with my international colleagues and friends, and I've discover that the activities, events, or networking is very different from one country to another.
There are local chapters more actives than others. people more involved than others.
I do belong to PMI local chapter in my region, and have participated in couple of events on Leadership & Agile in June'16. Local chapter will send you invitation in advance, so you can register for the event.
Events were organized in partnership with participating company in their premise. Representatives from PMI & the participating company took sessions.
Learning wise, loads of take away, and knowledge sharing. Networking wise, you get some time to mingle and connect with other PMs and participants. You can also volunteer if you wish.
Overall, events are good for learning and knowledge sharing. Saving Changes...

My local chapter is Northern Louisiana, which meets an hour and a half away from me. I try to engage at least every couple of months, but work dictates if I'm able to take that much time away to attend meetings. Saving Changes...

Unfortunately our local chapter for Eastern UK is Oxford based, which for US readers is a bit like the US Eastern chapter being run out of Colorado. So I've not been involved in it nor met anyone who is. The London chapter (which is actually a little nearer than Oxford too) does have the annual Synergy conference, which I do like to attend. I am member of 2 German Chapters and just came back from a meeting of the PMIFC.DE which exhibited 2 good and entertaining leadership presentations, as well as the election of 2 Chapter officers.
Main feature though was the time allotted for networking, meeting new (and old) people, talking about problems my wife does not want to hear about, listening to PMs with the same pains (little bit anonymous projectoholics).
If you want to become a good PM, you gotta become a leader, you have to learn how to deal with people, you need to interact with as many different people as possible. GO THERE! Saving Changes...
As you can see, there are people very involved (in more than one chapter, wow congrats! ).
On the other hand there are people that due to time constrains or distance aren't available to join one local chapter.
Nice words from Thomas Walenta, that suggest that in order to improve our skills we need to interact with people.
Please, continue sharing your experiences! Saving Changes...

I currently do not belong to any local chapter. I used to belong to two or more chapters because I wanted to experience the differences. I will join a chapter again; but right now the PMI and Project Management.com events have been very good for me. Saving Changes...
