I am wondering if the PMI has ever considered providing certifications to businesses/organizations which are committed to apply project management practices in their projects, develop their employees’ project management skills, and execute processes to continually improve the outcomes of their projects. It will be something like giving and ISO certification but by the PMI to companies.
So far, certifications are only granted at the individual level, and for organizations that provide educational services. I am sure that granting a certification at company level will improve the performance of many companies around the world, because government agencies and big corporations will want to make business with organizations that have this certification.
To grant this certification to businesses the PMI can assess if the company meet the following criteria, among others:
1) Training programs to allow employees’ to develop their project management skills.
2) Project Management Office to define the standards and methodologies that must be followed to plan and manage projects; and provide support to project team members during the execution of projects.
3) Use of a centralized knowledge database to document lessons learnt, provide OPAs, etc.
4) Commitment to continually improve their project management processes and practices. Saving Changes...
Certification could be an extension of the OPM3 model that PMI already has Saving Changes...

I agree with Samuel. It would also be good if there was a professional certification for those willing to do OPM3 assessments. Saving Changes...

Organizations currently have several options in assessing against the OPM3 standard. They can use the best practices self-assessment found in the OPM3 standard itself or they can work with an OPM3 Certified Professional to conduct an independent assessment. The list of OPM3 Certified Professionals can be found here. Saving Changes...
