How well does big data blend into project management, is/will there there be a major impact that we should expect. Is there a future for big data. I am currently torn between taking programming & databases classes against big data classes.

Both will have opportunities, but I would go with Big Data, since it is an emerging field and one may have more opportunities to make a difference as the field evolves further.

BTW, I didn't see the connection between Project Management and your question about programming/Big data classes...

Unfortunatelly, as other types of things, big data becomes into a buzz word. But the concept is outside there from years ´80 and before. What does means "future" for you?. Are you talking about project manager role? If your answer is yes then take into account that a project manager is not a subject matter expert.

Thank you Sergio, what I am trying to understand is where is the current trend/pattern with project management and big data, as in, is big data analytics being used as a tool/means to analyse projects feasibility and probably to monitor, measure and predict project performance and subsequent decision making or is PM currently being used to undertake big data projects, i want to understand if big data is expected to bloom fully and if as a project manager it will be worth going deep into the technicalities of this buzz. Kindly advice.

Jack, thanks for the clarification. I don't have any additional thoughts, but remembered a few other links from this site. Actually a search on Big Data brought up several other pieces of content as well.

Jack,

It depends on case to case. If you are working or evolving with a large number of projects then data analytics plays an important role. What is Lesson learned concept by PMI? It is a collection of Data, analyze it and reuse it for improvement. Similar to Data analytics. For sure It is essential for continuous improvement.
