Actually, in Canada, many are going towards Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) as it proved to save much more time and money in many ways.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has a wide research on this online.

I agree provided your design is approved by customer and your idea to meet clients requirements is well understood. End of day client wants to see result at minimum cost. It is like what you say, you do.
