Hello,

i am referring to the already existing discussion here:

http://www.projectmanagement.com/discussio...roject-Sponsor-

I have to ask a bunch of questions and to have more transparency and a better overview for your participation i will divide them in several postings.

What is this about?
In short: It is about what questions to ask your sponsor as a project manger in your very first meeting to set a baseline during initiation phase.

In long: please refer to the before mentioned thread fur detailed information.

Here are the questions about "Objective":

==========================================

Objective

What opportunity/problem are we going after?

What is the specific need this project is intended to address?

What is it that we are fixing, trying to improve or solve?

=============================================

Please review them and leave your comment, correction, enhancement or addition. Any feedback is highly welcome!

And please lookout for the other sections also; thank you very much in advance.

Every participant will receive the result of this initiative if wanted.

Regards,

Markus

I think those three questions might be enough to refer to "objectives" of the project. Just one more question might be introduced regarding urgency of the project in "objective" division..

Hello Sungjoon,

thanks for the response. May i ask you to formulate a question you would ask the sponsor in this situation regarding your topic? That would be great!

Hello Anupam,

thanks a ton for your contribution. To better understand your input in the context to our situation it would be great if you could formulate a complete question which you would ask your sponsor in this situation regarding your points (or several questions may be).
That would be awesome.
Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Markus

Dear Markus,

I would ask in conjunction with second question, "What is specific needs this project is intended to address and what is level of urgency for those specific needs?"

Hi Markus

Might be me, but how much difference you make between Objective and Business outcome?
In both case I would suggest a reminder that to see the impact of a change you need to have made a measurement before the change and to repeat at the end. Often that is not in the project, project didn't exist before the project and team is dissolve before result can be measure.

PS great exercise looking forward for you result, Thanks

Hello Vincent,

first of all thank you very much for your contribution.
I am not sure if i got you right here; is you comment intend for setting up some KPI's for the specific project and to control them along the way and of course along all upcoming changes?
Well, this will definitely being part of setting up the several management plans coming there, but maybe it would be a bit to early in this initiating meeting ... or did i got you totally wrong now?

Just another hint here: The tool/template will be designed in that way that it could be used for all projects out there, regardless which kind or size or whatever ... therefore the project manager has to customize this questionnaire while preparing the sponsor meeting accordingly to his/her specific needs.
It will be very easy to delete not needed questions/sections out of the questionnaire.

Regards,

Markus

Hello Anupam,

this part will be specified within the "business outcome" section, or did you miss something there?

Thanks for your contribution.
