Hello Community,

some of you may have already recognized our introduction of "MP4PM", if not please visit my blog here at projectmanagement.com for further information:

https://www.projectmanagement.com/blog-pos...gement---Part-I

https://www.projectmanagement.com/blog-pos...n-overview-----

Now, while working on that there came an idea up which i want to discuss with you.
The intention is to develop a mind map based, PMBoK Guide aligned pm framework, providing helpful tools/structures/templates for most if not all of the PMBoK Guide processes.
The general idea is to provide a clean template framework/collection which could be used and re-used for every new project.

But it would be great to have sample files in addition, right? And also it would be great to validate all that stuff through real experts like you, right?

And therefore we think about to start somewhat like a "role game" where we provide the participants our work and the can use it either in fictional case studies or maybe even for real existing projects.

The benefit for the participants would be not only the practice but also do they get all the maps/templates/structures and so on (for free of course!).
btw: This would be also ideal for aspiring PMPs since it is all PMBoK Guide aligned (but a lot of development is still to do and actually we do not even know when we will be ready with version 1, so you should plan to do your PMP in somewhat future ;) ).

To kick this off if this is interesting for you we actually need someone for the role of the sponsor/initiator/key stakeholder and another one for the role of the project manager.

So, if you are interested in participating in one of these roles, please contact me via pm (or write a comment and i will contact you).
Please consider, this will be more like a marathon, not like a sprint ... ;)

Over the time we will need to staff all the usual project roles you may know (like team members, stakeholders, steering committee members, client, PMO and so on ...).
So, if you interested to "play" a specific role please let us also know and we will put you on the list.

We are really excited if you like this idea ...

I am not too sure I fully understood but it seems exciting. I am in for PM or Project Sponsor provided that it won't take so much time as my schedule is really busy at this time of the year - Cheers Markus.

I get the concept of what you are thinking, and I would be willing to play the key stakeholder in this situation. I have some time to devote to a project dedicated to help educate and train. Best, Tara

Hi Tara,

this sounds great! Thank you so much for your willingness to participate.
If we could realize what i have in mind it would be a great learning experience for us all.
Since Ramie maybe will become the sponsor, you could be the "devils advocate", may be?
There have to be somebody who is more "against" the project, cause this is what in real life often happens, right?

Let's see if we got enough staff ...

Markus

It sounds very interesting. But my concern is that types of tools and nature of templates might be different based on the project situation, application area, complexity of the project etc. So it might be difficult to assign roles to those who are not familiar to project situation given in the scheduled role game.

Hi Sungjoon,

you are right, but guess what? It is just a "game", right? So it doesn't really matter if someone is not really experienced with the given situation (which still has to be described, any ideas for a sample project/program?).

But on the other hand you are right, i would prefer to have a somewhat experienced project manager also in the role of the "pm", so that the sample files/documents have a minimum quality/relevance as a sample, right?

And on the note of the different natures of projects and so ... well, we will try to define the templates/docs as much aligned to the PMBoK Guide standards, as they could be. That means, it will be widely standardized and has to be tailored to the specific projects like described in the PMBoK Guide.
Independent from that, the material is highly flexible and can be customized for any needs. (at least we hope so ...).

For which role would you buy in, Sungjoon? Project manager? ...;)

Regards,

Markus

Hi Rami,

thanks for your response and for your willingness to participate. To be honest i am not really sure about this by myself. It was just an idea coming over me while working on this.

But i think it could be a great benefit for the initiative "MP4PM" and for the participants also.

And don't worrie about the time, first we will not start this really in this year anymore; there have some things to be prepared first. And even if we have started this there will be no time issues since it is a virtual game and we will make our own time their. ;)

Because of your experience and your skills and also your time issues may be, i would prefer to see you in the sponsors role here (cause the project manager will have more or less the most effort here, i guess).

But for final decision let's first wait for some more responses.
If there will be not more people to be willing to participate, it doesn't make much sense to start this off ... we will see. ;)

Thanks so far.

Regards,

Markus

Hi Markus,

I have over 15 year experience in managing civil construction projects like road and civil works for hydro power plant mainly in Asia and Africa. I might not be suitable to take PM role in the role game because managing construction projects might be too domain specific comparing to general practices in the PMBOK Guide.. I may take the role of a stakeholder, if possible.

Hi,

from my perspective it should not matter of what domain you are coming but of course i do respect your situation and would be proud to have you on board as one of the stakeholders.

I will provide a sample project situation soon as starting point for the game and after that we will decide together which stakeholder exactly you will play, ok?

Good to have you with us.
