Dear all PMers;

Here is a sharing of my PBA exam experience.

Note: As the requirement of PBA exam, I will not discuss or share any topic related to the exam content. If any violation you feel, pls let me know to correct it.

===============================================================
1. Why attend the PBA exam
There is 3 reasons. PMI PBA virtual conference in 2015; Linkedin trends of PM influencers, PMI China PBA workshop in Shanghai; 4. Friends of my.

1.1 PMI PBA virtual conference.
I noticed that a very interested new project professional related to the requirement management or project initiate in 2015 PMI PBA virtual conference occasionally.
After working as PM 17 years and certificated PMP since 2003, I was more focused on support project initiate as well as business case drafting. The PBA certificaiton looks like next direction of my career;

1.2 Influcener in Linkedin.
Some PM connection in my linkedin network has updated their personal introduction or headline with PBA. Especially, someone in USA with more than 30 years PM/Consultancy background and multiple industry experience.

1.3 PMI China 2016 Shanghai forum
One of the main topic of this forum was Project business analysis & Requirement management. PMI & key influence presentation showed the current challenge & opportunity for Project business analysis. One of influencer, Mr Yu ZhaoPeng, has a insight presentation about it.

1.4 Last but not least.
Mr. YuZhaoPeng, my wechat friends, often personally advocated the PBA opportunities in his friends cycle in wechat.

A new professional certification and a highly matched professional knowledge & experience practice. So interested to me. And PMI, Linkedin, PMI China, and private friends said PBA is next direction. I has no choice but get PBA professional.

==========================================================
2. When attend the PBA exam
I was eligible to attend PBA exam by online application in 2015. However, there is no exam center until 2016 June. I missed the 1st PBA exam chance in China as time conflict.

The next chance is 2016 Dec. I successfully only application, enrolled and paid.

The PMI related certification exam has been using paper exam for 10 years.
I remember my PMP exam was paper based and wait around 6 weeks for get passed news in 2003. This time, I has to attend paper based exam again and wait 6 weeks to know pass or no-pass info again.

==========================================================-
3. My feeling about the exam.
Last Saturday morning, I went to the exam site and start the exam. It tooks 4 hours to completed.
My feeling was so strong about:

3.1. Time Pressure. The real exam was a bit of different than my simulation. The 1st 50th questions took 60 minutes double than my simulation. I has to speed up in follow 150 questions.

3.2. PMBOK is foundation: Compared to other preparing material or book, I has to say the PMBOK is the 1st thing for preparing. You will know how important of the PMBOK while taking PBA exam. I has to admitted that I should allocation more time to review PMBOK when preparing. I hope the working experience & instict could recover some gap. :-)

3.3. Unique: 2 of 1000. There are around one thousand people attend the PMI exam. According the seat board info, 99.9% should be attending PMP, around 10 people attend ACP, PGMP, CAPM, and 2 attend for PBA exam.

==========================================================-
4. My suggestion about the Preparing PBA exam
Sharing my rating for material of important & efficiency
4.1. Important
***** PMBOK 5th, Practice guide
**** BABOK v2.0, PMI-PBA certification and business analysis (Chinese Edition)
**** PBA exam simulation by watermark learning
*** The presentation shared in PBA virtual conference 2015&2016
4.2. efficiency(as easy to follow up & understand)
***** PBA exam simultation by watermark learning
***** BABOK v2.0, PMI-PBA certification and business analysis (Chinese Edition)
*** The presentation shared in PBA virtual conference 2015&2016
*** PMBOK 5th, Practice guide

4.3. Here is the full list, I was used before the exam. Before exam, I prepared by self learning and used varied kinds of material. They were:
1. PMBOK 5th
2. Business analysis for practitioners, a practice guide
3. Exam outline
The above 3 material was from PMI
4. A guide to Business Analysis Body of knowledge(v2.0)
5. PBA exam simulation by Watermark learning
6. iZenBridge online course.
7. PMI-PBA certification and business analysis (Chinese Edition) by YU ZHAO PENG, KE JIAN JIE ZHU
8. PMI-PBA Certification Study Guide
9. Advise from Project management influence Markus Klein , Anupam Ganguly,
10. Presenation file in 2015&2016 PBA virtual conference.

Summary:
I think, If you can full understand & know the PMBOK & PBA practice guid, you can attend PBA exam without extra preparing.

Considering ,the lack of time or simulation help memory & understanding, I think the PBA exam by watermark learning really help to improve the efficency when preparing the exam.
Though the exam content& style is quite different than simulation, it still a good preparing source. I tried 1600 simulation and final simulation score was 85% correction rate. The overal simulation score was 80%. Looks watermark learning use BABOK as reference, so the BABOK will help you to understanding & establish the detail Business analysis process.

Hope the article could be useful when anyone preparing PBA exam in future.

Hope I can pass the PBA exam and get a good score.

Dear everyone;

I am so glad to share with you a good news.

I am PMI-PBA already. This morning, I received the exam passed email from PMI.

My score result varied in different domain. 2 Proficient, 2 moderate, and 1 below proficient.
=================================================================
Here is my lesson learn.

1. Analysis. BABOK was so great in these domain. Also, the PBA exam simulation by watermark learning help me be confidence in it.

2. Trace & monitoring. PMBOK 5th edition is the Bible for that. My project work also accumulated many experience & knowledge about it.

3. Plan & Evaluation: it is bit of different between PMBOK & BABOK. also the PBA exam simulation might different style than real exam.

4. Need assessment: To be frankly, I was not easy when start exam. The style was so different than BABOK book & PBA exam. And when preparing exam, I has no fully dig out the PMBOK 5th about the needs assessment part.

So, PMBOK 5th, BABOK V2, and PBA exam simulation was my material for preparing the exam. Passed but not as good as I expected.

====================================================================
Thanks for you help & hope you as good luck as well.
