Given the listing of key tasks and key milestones, are we presuming there are non-key activities and non-key milestones? If so, do we need to consider the needs and impact of these non-key events?

Hello Stephane,

from my perspective the SOW is done very early in the project as a pre-stage to the project charter. Usually at this stadium we have less information especially about the schedule dates (since the project planning isn't done yet, right?).
So, mostly we have more or less just such dates as Key Milestones (mostly - in my experience - the project end date as the most important key milestone of all is given at least).
If we are lucky (or in an organization with a high project management maturity) may be we have at this stage some additional information.
However this will be developed further in the project progress and more and more detailed in the following documents (regarding the schedule dates of course within the planning phase and especially in the "develop project schedule" process).
So from my perspective we should concentrate on such "key" information here, if the even exist.
What do you think?

Regards,

Markus

I understand that we should focus on a limited set at this stage. I'm just worried that non-key tasks and milestones could impact the key ones.

I think I would almost prefer not to put the term 'key", for now. It may be they will be key once we know better, especially compared to other tasks and milestones.

Hello Stephane,

ok, i totally get your point here.
What term would you prefer here?
What is about "high level" Milestones/Tasks.
We should indicate somehow that we are at an early stage here actually, what do you think?

Markus

I do like "high level" better than "key", Markus. "High level" gives an idea of comprehensiveness that is not apparent with "key".
