I am looking for a quick and cost effective CAPM certification. Do you have any guidance or advise?
I have 20+ years of project leader experience, but I have never bothered to get certified. Now I am interested in a position that requires at least a CAPM certification. Thus, I am looking for a quick and cheap way to obtain the certification.
I have attended project management courses, both as part of my M.Sc(Eng) exam at university in the 1980s and later at Learning Tree International (but I have not attended any courses by PMI REPs).
I have read PMBOK Guide and other books on project management, as I am (and always have been) interested in learning more about project management.
I have not taken any extensive records of my project manager experience with me from previous employers, because the projects information has been business secrets of the employer. My recent project experience is agile/scrum which might not qualify according to PMI rules. The older projects were PMBOK style waterfall, but the bosses I had on those projects have left those former employers, so it might take a long time to collect verifications for an audit. Thus I think that the option of 23 hours REP education is probably quicker.
The normal classroom courses in my part or the world are expensive. As I do not have an employer sponsoring me on this I am cost sensitive. Also the normal classroom courses would cost me vacation days, and may be hard to fit into a tight calendar schedule.
