Normally, I am not a fan of certifications that do not require hands on training, but Scrum is an area where I am starting to rethink that notion. While the CSM class provides a good experience to learn from someone with experience in a group setting, so that you are getting different perspectives, a little bit of experience can teach you as much as you learn in the class. The test you take after taking the class is trivial. Here is a link to a company that offers Scrum certification without taking class.
For Professional Scrum Master certification from scrum.org , you NOT necessary take any course or class, You just need to buy the exam key which will cost you 150 USD and take the exam.
Now the exam has 85% as passing threshold and it does has many tricky questions, if you fail you end up paying 150 USD again, i know people fail with even 1% (scored 84% ) . This is why we have detailed online program which can ensure you pass in first attempt , that too with more than 90%
