I've raised a similar question acwhile ago about the same topic but I would like to be more specific in this question in terms of what I am looking for with regards to the RMP exam:

1- Was the level of difficulty for the exam the same as the PMP exam ?
2- Which references did you study from ? Which chapters (Communication, Risk, Stakeholders) ?
3- How much study time did it take you before you sat for the exam ?

Thanks in advance.

I passed my PMI-RMP exam on Thursday.

The most important points to focus on for PMI-RMP from my perspective are:

1- Read the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and PMBOK5 CH11 four times.

2- Read the Exam Content Outline many times until you understand it perfectly.

3- Read Communication Management PMBOK CH10 and Stakeholders Management PMBOK CH13 two times.

4- During the reading of the materials solve questions for refreshing the knowledge.

5- Practice Standard CH1, CH2 and CH3 are important chapters to know the risk concepts.

6- ITTOs For the 13 processes in PMBOK (H10,CH11,CH13) save it in your mind with perfect understanding of the contents.

7- Critical success factors for project risk management and the six processes
save it in your mind with perfect understanding of the contents in the Practice Standard.

8- Control Risk process very important.

9- Save the five points of the Status Meeting in your mind, available in the last pages of the Practice Standard.

10- Appendix D very important, you have to know and understand the definitions of all tools as well as you have to know the tools of each process.

11- Role of the project manager very important in Practice Standard Ch2.

12- Lessons Learned very important, you have to know what and when to update, available in Control process.

13- Risk Response plans very important.

14- Difference between Contingency and Management Reserves.

15- Attitude, appetite, tolerance, threshold and Attitude types very important.

16- Probability and Impact matrix.

17- Strategies for Positive and Negative risks.

18- Monte Carlo & Latin HyperCube
Excellent Job Sharique! Congrats!

Thank you for the tips for what to focus on when preparing for the RMP exam.

1- Was the level of difficulty for the exam the same as the PMP exam ?
I thought the RMP was a bit tougher than the PMP but only in the fact that you had so spend time reading and rereading long complex questions. The highlighting feature that ProMetric centers have on the test was handy.

2- Which references did you study from ? Which chapters (Communication, Risk, Stakeholders) ?

Risk Practice Standard
PMBOK5 (CH10, CH11 and CH13)
RMP Exam Content Outline
Udemy Practice Test:Risk Management PMI-RMP Real Practice Exams and Risk Management PMI-RMP Appendix_D Practice Questions by Alaa Sultan
Whiz Labs: 30 hour RMP Prep Course and Practice Exams
Study Guide for the PMI-RMP Exam Second Edition by Abdulla Alkuwaiti
and a few other online resources here and there on discussion groups like this one.

3- How much study time did it take you before you sat for the exam ?
Studied about 4-8 hours a week for the fist 4 weeks and about 8-12 hours a week for the last 3 weeks with a break in between. This was over a 56 day period from deciding to pursue RMP until test complete and passed.

Hi Rami,

I found the degree a bit higher than PMP,

I did prefer a book "Passing the RMP certification exam the first time" to Rita's book, plus review the PMBOK

I work in risk full time for years, my study time was a few weeks
Gotta say thank you as well.

Hi Rami,

well, i just have done a little research on it and it is really not easy to find a good source therefore. I have discovered some links where RMP simulators where offered but i do not know them personal, so please have a closer look on them by yourself.
From my perspective the one by Whizlabs makes a more or less good impression ...

Hi Markus, Rami,

I tried Whizlabs. I am really angry with myself for not trying the free test before purchasing. I saw that they were a PMI REP. I thought based on your "impression" above and on the fact that they are a REP I could go ahead an purchase with some level of confidence. After purchasing I tried the sample test. It was of a really, really poor quality. In many instances the grammar is so bad that one cannot understand what is being asked.

I have requested a refund. I have not accessed any of the paid content and I am not going to in the hope that I will get a refund. I assume the paid content quality is similar to the free test which, as I stated above, is terrible.

Regards

It will be not difficult if you have experience in risk management.
Recommend to check PMBOK(Stakeholder, Communication) and all contents of Practice Guide.

Hi Adrian,

I did not imply whatsoever that Whizlabs are good resource for simulation exams, I haven’t used them at all. The only simulation exams I did when I was studying for my RMP are from Udemy.

The only time I used Whizlabs was during my studying for the ACP Exam and noticed that the English language and they way Questions was stated was poor but they were good source of review questions.

Not sure where you are in the process but I wish you all the best in the exam.
