Hello Shridar.
This is an interesting topic to discuss on. Quality of a product, a service or a process dépends mostly on the quality of the process used to create it. I would say that Process Improvement should consider performance improvement but also defects chasing and satisfaction of "quality factors" like Functionality, Usability, Reliabilty, Support, .....
So Process Improvement and Quality Improvement are tightly linked together and should not be considered separately.
This is a first view for this discussion. I hope we will read other points of view.

I agree with Philippe. Process improvement efforts should result in quality improvements in your product or service. You can begin the process by planning quality improvement first and then working backwards to determine the necessary process improvements. If you are looking for quality improvement in general, you can begin with process improvements and see what quality improvements can occur.

There is no discussion at all. When you will do something inside your organization you have to understand this as a pyramid. The base is quality. With basement on quality, if you are talking about process, you have to take a life cycle model based on the quality approach you are taking, a life cycle process based on the life cycle model, a method based on the life cycle process, a tool (software and non software) to support the method. Quality must be defined at strategical level and all you do inside the organization is created from quality. So, it will be aligned to quality.
