From my point of view, one of the outstanding subjects of the departments of Human Resources is, without a doubt, the satisfaction and the motivation of the employees.
The emotional salary refers to all those non-economic remunerations that the worker can obtain from the company and whose objective is to positively encourage the image that has on their work environment.
Does your company offer "emotional salary"?
Some examples, remotely work one day each week, kindergarden, university tuition...
The best "emotional salary" is a love to the work that you do.
Extra perks like free food, entertainment, work at home may have less value if the work is very engaging and interesting by itself. The person will be productive if his love to work grows with his experience and promotions.
On the other hand, if the work is not interesting and engaging, the perks may keep someone in place for a while but not for long.
Agree! Having a passion for your work is key.
Take in mind that this kind of perks as free fountain soda or neverending coffee is very American. In Spain for example, I had to pay 50 cents each time that I grabbed a coffee.
Now, I can't imagine myself without free coffee or sodas...my doctor is completely disappointed with me, lol Saving Changes...
Yes in Australia we do have a good work from home policy especially for parents of young children as long as you genuinely use it and don't abuse it.
Also there is a system of "Rostered Day off". An employee works a 40 hour week to get a day off every fortnight . You would think that they are working an extra 2 hours a week, but divide it over five days and you see that they are working 24 minutes extra each day for a day off each month. And in the scheme of things you would gladly take - being paid less for one day each month, to get that holiday.
Across the board, every permanent employee gets 4 weeks of annual leave each completed year of service.
I don't see anyone being refused flexible hours either, come early , leave early or come late , leave late as long as you get the work done.
Plus you can take 5 days off in a year without having to produce a medical certificate , which helps especially when you have those occasional stressful days when you don't want to go to work or the doctor and instead just go fishing or a long drive
Deepesh, thank you for your comments. Very interesting your comments about "Rostered Day off", I love to learn how other countries manage their teams. Saving Changes...

I haven't heard this term before, but it's a good one. Right now it's more important to me than it has been in the past. It's really flexible working, which allows me to manage work and home without sinking.

Elizabeth, thank you for your comments.
Agree with you, I have the same feeling when I started in the IT world, I didn't take care of that...now is being a key factor in my decision for taking in mind new challenges or move from one to another organization/company...and I'm being millennial always, ;)
After spending few years in the organization and having good amount of compensation, the employee definitely look beyond money. It is nothing but job satisfaction, work life balance, paid leaves, bonus, gifts and rewards, facilities like WFH, reimbursement of traveling expenses.. etc.
Unfortunately, small companies don't offer many of these facilities.
I have seen few seniors who would like to continue their jobs with organization if they receive such 'emotional salary' irrespective of what hike they are receiving every year.

Great question many are still struggling with, also it is my first time to see the term "emotional salary”, I am more used to term “soft benefits”
From my experience as a consultant with many organizations, large organization specially in the financial, pharma and defense industries have some of these benefits available in corporate level but also give line managers the discretion to manage their own staff specially around remote work or flexible hours, the current level of technology that allow workers to work anywhere was great help
I don’t think there is a fixed formula except for some of Federal and state level regulations that deal with newly and expected mothers, medical issues, and veterans

Walid, thank you for your comment, yes, soft benefits are related to all those non-monetary compensations offered by the organization usually for performing their jobs.
Changing Soft by Emotions, from my point of view, we are taking in mind not only performance, also motivation, happiness and other factors.
Mayte, this is the first time I have heard this term as well. Trademark it quickly! :-) There appears to be a shift in the emotional salary for WFH. More companies are bringing people back into the office. Maybe this depends on the industry; but a trend for some IT professionals. I hope more companies focus on emotional salary.

Wow, a term that is very interesting. "Emotional Salary." Like others mentioned, it really depends on the demand for people in the area. For example, most critical, crucial projects do a lot of work from home policy because of limitations or expected overtime work. Even within the same organization, one program will give the flexibility and not the other. But it is always great to have some pertinent benefits. Saving Changes...
