From my point of view, one of the outstanding subjects of the departments of Human Resources is, without a doubt, the satisfaction and the motivation of the employees.

The emotional salary refers to all those non-economic remunerations that the worker can obtain from the company and whose objective is to positively encourage the image that has on their work environment.

Does your company offer "emotional salary"?

Some examples, remotely work one day each week, kindergarden, university tuition...

Share your experience.

The best "emotional salary" is a love to the work that you do.

Extra perks like free food, entertainment, work at home may have less value if the work is very engaging and interesting by itself. The person will be productive if his love to work grows with his experience and promotions.

On the other hand, if the work is not interesting and engaging, the perks may keep someone in place for a while but not for long.
And you have to wonder if companies should be trying to retain unhappy employees.

The emotional salary has to be comprehensive enough to satisfy the current needs of each employee.

Ten years ago, I might have appreciated a work phone but now I would rather a day off.

I believe work-life balance becomes more important as one moves up Maslow's hierarchy of needs. I value being valued and the flexibility my company provides, even as I recognize that some things change as the environment changes.

Julia, thank you for your comments.

As workforce is changing adding in our teams "new generational" members, understand their motivations is key. Now in the game of perks, motivation, compensations, paychecks...blah blah... we should consider also the Emotional Benefits.

Great question many are still struggling with, also it is my first time to see the term "emotional salary”, I am more used to term “soft benefits”

From my experience as a consultant with many organizations, large organization specially in the financial, pharma and defense industries have some of these benefits available in corporate level but also give line managers the discretion to manage their own staff specially around remote work or flexible hours, the current level of technology that allow workers to work anywhere was great help

I don’t think there is a fixed formula except for some of Federal and state level regulations that deal with newly and expected mothers, medical issues, and veterans
Walid, thank you for your comment, yes, soft benefits are related to all those non-monetary compensations offered by the organization usually for performing their jobs.

Changing Soft by Emotions, from my point of view, we are taking in mind not only performance, also motivation, happiness and other factors.

Mayte, this is the first time I have heard this term as well. Trademark it quickly! :-) There appears to be a shift in the emotional salary for WFH. More companies are bringing people back into the office. Maybe this depends on the industry; but a trend for some IT professionals. I hope more companies focus on emotional salary.
Demetrius,

Thank you for your comments, trademark, maybe...lol, I'll write and article with copyright first :)

Agree, depends on the industry where we are seeing different kinds of "Emotional Salary"
