PMP certification is still the most globally recognised certification in project management and it's methodology is widely used on most projects today. Once you obtain your PMP certification, it enables you to understand the basics of general project management, and helps determine the "best fit" when you take on a few Agile projects. Some of the basic principles of Waterfall (traditional) Project Management such as Decomposition, Rolling Wave Planning, Process Tailoring, and Continuous Improvement are well used in Agile Project Management. In other words, the Waterfall Project Management covered by PMP certification will remain with us for many years to come. The type of opportunities that would be available to you as a project manager may require you to embrace the Hybrid PM Approach which allows you to tailor your processes to the best practices of both Agile and Waterfall Project Management. In summary, having your PMP certification gives you a good foundation to best utilise your Agile Methodology.
