I'm a recently PMP certified project manager. I am the only certified PM in my company, and I have offered to lead a study group to help other PMs study for their CAPM certification. Does anyone have any tips or tricks? This will be my first time leading a group like this. Does anyone know of any teaching material they purchased for use that is recommended?

I'll give a quick answer. There is a lot that can be written about this, and others will fill in the gaps I leave.

My first recommendation is to make sure they understand their learning style(s), then focus on those areas. Before you start:

* Pick a book
* Pick practice exam questions and/or simulator
* Pick flash cards
* Will a quick reference guide be helpful?
* Is purchasing video an option?
* Identify self study materials they can use on their own time, such as podcasts

Don't spend a lot of time reading the chapters during the study session. Use that time for answering questions about the reading, flash cards, video, reviewing the application and how to fill it out, filling out the cram sheet, discussing/practicing how to apply what is being learned (formulas), etc...

You could make the whole thing self-guided, but if it lacks structure and they feel like they are not getting anything out of it, you will lose people. That is what happened to the study group I was part of. Ten of us started; I was one of two to finish.

Hello Taylor!

The tips I can suggest for you are the tips adopted in the chapter PMI Recife, Pernambuco - Brazil, where I participated as a student. The certification study group is led by a PM, who is assisted by certified volunteers who act as facilitators. Facilitators are responsible for each area of ??knowledge. Each area corresponds to a week defined in the schedule. Students are divided into groups of 3 (depending on class size) and each group is responsible for preparing a presentation and presenting an area of ??knowledge. (The facilitator receives and reviews the presentation 2 days before the meeting). On the day of the meeting, there is the presentation and discussion of the area of ??knowledge where the doubts are clarified. The class is divided into 2 groups for a game of questions. For the game, you will have to create or search a bank of questions like at Aaron's first suggestion. This brings dynamism to the encounter.

You can also look for some website that will help you with the materials and questions.

From this you can have other ideas.
