I have been working as Technical Project Manager/Technical Delivery Manager for the last 1.5 years. Now I am looking for a new job opportunity in other organizations with better career options.
Does the market look bleak for PMs/TPMs in India?
I have been reading that up-skilling yourself is the best way to deal with it.
What skills do we as PMs need to keep ourselves up in the competition?
Do we see a threat to PM role with the onset of Automation, Big Data, Cloud Computing, IoT, etc? Saving Changes...
Now-a-days, IT industry is looking for more Technical Project Managers than project managers.
I have also seen project managers role has been assigned to Scrum Masters. Though both the roles are not same, still industries are hiring more scrum masters and less project managers.
As a project manager, it is required to understand upcoming technologies. You may be an expert but you should be able to understand basics.
I do see a threat to regular PM role as industry is emphasizing on TPM. Saving Changes...

Hi Khushboo, not sure about PM market in India. But I heard any PM should have technical skills in India because they tend to wear more than one hat, rather they are demanded to wear several hats. In the US, I have seen such positions too, but they would clearly state so on the requirement, that they need a technical PM or the technology they are looking for. Even here, traditional Project Management is very less, you are required to have some understanding of technology, domain expertise etc. Personally, I liked the non-traditional PM role better, I had been serving on a very complex, muti-year, multi-million dollar programs where there is always some rambling and chaos :-) It's stressful and quite challenging..Like the challenges they pose :-) Saving Changes...
