How do you get SMEs to share their knowledge? We have some very talented people, but all of their knowledge is in their head or on their hard drive. We talk about being a team, but their is very little knowledge sharing.

Dear Anonymous, one approach that was shared at a recent PMI dinner meeting was to award incentive compensation for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. It also helps to have a collaboration framework for the team to use. Even a well organized network shared folder can do. Also, there might be some inhibitors or roadblocks preventing knowledge sharing. Some equate possession of knowledge with job security.
