Transitioning into Project Management TONJIA WILSON NA| NA Tucker, Ga, USA Not sure if I can post this here.. but here goes! I am currently completing my bachelor's with a concentration in Project Management. I will be scheduling to take the PMP soon. I've searched for a mentor with no luck. I have worked Accounting projects over the years, so my background is Accounting/Financial. What is the best way to transition into Project Management. Do you want to transition finance PM, or are you going to a new industry? On your resume, be sure to highlight skills that overlap with project management (teamwork, planning, managing, communication, etc). Network with a PM at the company you wish to work. Good luck. Glad I did because even though I hadn’t had the PM title I have all the skills and attributes the company was looking for. You never know what you can do unless you try! Saving Changes... If your current situation ables you to do that go for a PM job no matter perhaps you have to "sacrifice" things like money for example. Saving Changes... In order to even sit for the PMP, you have to demonstrate that you have 36 months of professional project management experience, and 4,500 hours spent leading and directing projects. If you can sit for the exam, you already have plenty of project management experience even if your title is not Project Manager! As Mr. Johnson noted above, that is what you need to emphasize on your resume. Look at the experience you listed on the exam application and put that into your resume when tailoring it for a PM position. Highlight the PM skills above accounting skills.
