When do we should use Critical Chain for the project? Do we need any software for using this method?

I guess when evaluating your team efficiency because it's a technique that makes use of buffer that only the project manager is aware of. It depends on the constraint of the project and the project manager experience and choices. I mean there are not a specified situation in which one has to use specifically this technique. One of the software that can be used to help you elaborate your project schedule is MS PROJECT and of course you can use it while intending to apply the critical chain method.

I found an article that was posted back in April 2017 that I thought summed up
the basic differences between Critical Path Method (CPM) and Critical Chain Method (CCM). They are often confused but are quite different.

The author also gives some tips on identifying CPM -vs- CCM questions on the PMP exam.
