1. An appetite to learn and grow, attending courses and obtaining credentials/certifications sharing and applying my learnings. These include a number of post graduate degrees and local as well as internationally recognised credentials in Project, Program and Portfolio Management as well as PMOs - including of course the PMP. Attending Conferences to keep abreast of the latest.
2. Volunteering for PMI nationally (Local Chapters) as well as globally (GOC). Volunteering provides ample opportunity to learn and grow, to network and give back to the profession.
3. Keeping a positive attitude, ensuring ethical and professional behaviour no matter what the situation is. This includes managing the projects and programs that others run away from and making dreams reality - making the impossible possible. Saving Changes...

This is a great post!
I personally don't subscribe to the status quo of "this is how we have always done things" especially if it isn't working. I work on being proactive and getting in front of whatever issues and coming up with a relevant solution.
As PMs, we get thrown into new situations all the time, and using time-tested principles, we can be creative and come up amazing solutions. I don't sell myself short and encourage my team to be better, push themselves and be problem solvers rather than complainers.
Taking classes, webinars and staying current are all included of course. Lets no't forget networking, even using this site is helpful as i get to read about other PMs' resolution techniques and / or perspectives. it helps my development as a person and a professional.
Not engaging in office politics may have done my career some harm but I personally choose to not engage in it. Not my forte, so i do what i think is an obvious way to avoid it, i choose to be a consultant than a "rank and file" employee. Saving Changes...

Once I certified as a PMP, I decided I would immerse myself in the community and be an active member, striving to be supportive and share my experiences with others. I have also inserted myself into more strategic conversations to help pave my path to new opportunities to drive organization improvements around project management, solution alignment, and benefits realization.
I, of course, joined and participate in local chapter events, watch webinars, listen to podcasts, and enjoy content from my favorite providers. Saving Changes...
