In my experience, there is not a standard time. Each team is unique, and reaches it at different time durations. If you are having difficulty reaching the performing stage, I would monitor the team performance and note it a risk for your project.

I agree with Gary, don't believe there's standard that can be put on that.

I second (third) that. Every team has an individual situation, based on the project, the people involved, the team culture. I don't think you can predict exactly how long it will take.

I totally agree with everyone here. There is no one standard, because the projects are so diverse and so are the organizational cultures and standards.
I can however give an example, for a project- Schedule driven(length=4-6 months), the execution phase comes around 3rd month. If that is what you are looking for, roughly.

Hello Deepa,

I need your view as i have seen somewhere your reply that Project Manager's are not strictly domain specific as Project Management itself is an Independent Vertical it is always good to have domain knowledge but it is not like a pre-requisite for Project Managers. I am working as a Project Manager Since last 5 years in Telecom domain specifically in Application Development side.Currently I am giving some interviews i am observing that people are not judging on PM skills they are more or less more interested in Domain Knowledge how to handle such situation.
It will be really helpful for me if you can share some insights in this.
