I definitely have preferences in terms of which projects I prefer to work on for one reason or another. I would say that my favorite type of project based on my experiences thus far is either infrastructure or the implementation of a third party tool.
My least favorite are agile development projects with in-house development.
Other types that I enjoy:

A project which has an immovable due date and there is material consequence of not hitting the date. Those are the projects that management care about most and are more apt to partner with you on getting done.
I prefer to handle external projects which has external consultancies approval especially government authorities. That make my schedule more dynamic which need corrective actions .It helps to improve my negotiation / Liaison-ing skills , patience etc., Saving Changes...

My favorite projects are events that I also attend. There's a writer's conference that I've been attending the last few years. This year, I am a volunteer to help organize and execute the event. I've also helped with a couple of local PMI chapter professional development conferences. Saving Changes...
I prefer projects that are unlike previous projects, require small teams and allow room for growth and learning. Saving Changes...

I prefer projects that require unique thinking and problem solutions to execute. The mining industry is great in this area as every project has unique characteristics (geology, timelines, requirements etc.).
This requires you to constantly questions what you thought you knew as more data becomes available and given the normally long time horizon's the final product is a far cry from the initial concept.
Challenging environment for controls personnel especially as it is very dynamic. Saving Changes...
I prefer Managed Service Projects in Telecom and IT, where you need to go through each phase like transition phase, stabilization, operation and transformation, and later on enjoying with the improvements on KPI's of the network and keeping up with contracted SLA's. Saving Changes...
