You are correct, Mounir. You did not say untrue. You did call it bogus which may not be the same as untrue but certainly feels the same.

I agree that the study does not show any clearly defined salary difference for any certification. I have yet to see one in over twenty years of project management.

To call it a marketing stunt seems to imply more mischief on the part of PMI than perhaps there is?

I certainly have not found the study to be very useful for the purpose in this discussion. I thought it was more useful as an indicator of project management need in the world.

It's always nice to get your perspective in these discussions, Mounir. Take care.

Just to clarify - the word bogus is not intended for the Salary Survey. There is nothing wrong with the survey; as far as I could tell.

The issue - bogus - is how it is marketed - mostly by people, providers, vendors, that the PMP WILL DIRECTLY RESULT in 20% (+/-) salary raise. The survey does not prove this point or even address it

I'm with Ed, I will recommend checking by experience or region in order to don't be depressed when you compare your country with others...(that what happened to me when I was in Spain and read comments from the U.S)

Thanks for the link Mayte.

Survey is just one side of the story.
Certification has nothing to do with bonus, increment, and growth.

I agree that the survey won't reflect a direct and unique impact of the certification on salary, specially because there are so many factors that one does not have the proper data to state it.
Perhaps the only way would be, to compile information regarding eventual raises after certified within the company you already are, which I feel safe to say that in fact on almost no cases it happens.

What does happen is that the PMP knowledge brings new tools and resources for professionals to do a quality job and also to use as leverage when Job seeking.

In summary, any impact on salary caused by the certification is essencially indirect, either by higher performance due to knowledge resulting in bonuses/raises/promotions, or for future job positions negotiations.
