Is Process Improvement considered a project ?

Dear colleagues

Process Improvement is a part of many management consulting firms.

As this service fulfills the definition of PM:
- Temporary as it has a beginning & end date.
- Delivers a unique product

Is it considered a project ?

My experience with continuous improvement is that continuous means no end date.

When you start something that is meant to go on forever, we call it an initiative. We treat the implementation part of the initiative as a project, then we switch into operations mode.

Hi Adnan : yes indeed. improving the quality , cost or process. it could be a project.

I included some process improvement projects in my PMP application and they were accepted there. As long as it meets the definition of a project and isn't a continuous, it totally counts.

In order to implement process improvement, certain tasks need to be completed. If those are temporary and not continuous then it can be considered as project.

Example:
Six Sigma Projects used for process improvement but these are executed as individual projects.
