Hello all! I'm developing a course of the steps required to make a project successful, from a business client’s perspective. What is the ONE thing you wish your clients would do (at any stage of a project) that would make the project flow more smoothly and successfully? Just one item please!!

Client education is very important - Communication is important so one thing I would always stress on is team work and the concept that "We are all on the same boat". Sometimes Client play cops which demotivates others.

Negotiate right from the beginning the project management process with the stakeholders / other participants to the project.

I totally agree with Rami that Client education is very important, and when I say that I refer to the fact that your Client should be aware that his project management process should match and complement the project mangement processes of his stakeholders in the projects (your) Client is in. As a part of "we are all in the same boat", Client should be aware that, within the Framework of contractual agreements he has for the project (including his subcontractors), he has a responsibility of negotiating with his stakeholders the best possible project management process complementing and supporting the ones of its stakeholders. If these project management processes are at odds, than participants in the project may start suffering losses (deviations from their baselines, including of the Client) and then politics may take over and participants' demotivation to occur.

Tracy -

From a business client's perspective, my main ask is to be committed and own the actions, issues, risks or decisions the project manager brings to your attention. They and the team are striving to deliver your business value predictably, and this goes much easier when you are responsive to their concerns.
