POSITION DESCRIPTION OF ROLES IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Hi All,

I had been going thru the threads & find this is a quite useful. And as this is my first query I just want to make a clear picture so this may go a little longer.

I am working in an Auto industry as a Manager - projects Planning & Co-ordination in a New product development department. Basically the job does not fall to a part of PM but fall into the entire workflow (Requirements engineering / projects planning Considering all cross funtional departments.

Here every project does involve Mechanical parts design & development / Electronics parts (Hardware) design & development / Software development / Integration of software & hardwares / testing & finally a product is made

I have always 50 projects at any time with me each worth $100000 to $500000

Now that our company is trying to work out the "POSITION DESCRIPTION" of every role we play & I have been made the team leader in the Program management area.

I have some queries while trying to make this.

POSITION DESCRIPTION requires to address the following for my role that is "Projects Planning & Co-ordination"

1. Basic purpose of the Position
a. Position Objective
b. Position Purpose

2. Major Actities - To address at least 20 responsibities with estimated share / percentage of time spent for each of them

3. Each responsibilities should have a Principal Accountabilities(Key Measurable Results to be accomplished)

4. Major Challeges of the position to be solved with the help of TOP management

5. Ongoing problems to be sorted by self & teams

6. Specific Competencies required for the position (Technical / Functional & Behavioural)

I see this is different from the competency mapping (I had been involved earlier)& needs special address & each one should be measurable.

I thought of floating this here so as to get the views from the PM Experts & PM Professional so that a compilation would bring a better result as well than doing it all alone.

Could some one support me in establishing the position description of the role??

We have derived a format for the Position description & Competency Mapping & has been already approved by the Top Management If interested please send me a separate mail (raymond at pricol dot co dot in ) so that I can share them for better understanding


Sorry for troubling with a long mail but I think this would great help to me on job profiling of every role in the PM Area for our industry
