I am looking for ideas on small group exercises that illustrate PM concepts especially around dealing with cultural differences or dealing with cross border issues or ethics. Something for students to do in say 5 or 10 minutes. Any ideas welcome

Great ideas. Ashok, I would suggest that you start with simple ones and then increase the complexity, on what ever example/case that you choose. Having lot of complexity at the beginning may defeat the purpose. All the best.

What I have done previously is introduce something special or unique about the culture that is probably not regularly known. In the Philippines, we often had two major groups, the employees (local culture) and employers (foreign nationals). For this situation, we presented a unique cultural element with fast facts, an example, even stories from people about that unique fact, and then we reversed it for the other culture (ie. something about Australian culture). This not only broadened culture awareness, but bonded the team closer and forged a new respect for the other's culture.

Excellent idea, I may want to add a twist to this, that the bride and the groom may not be from the same ethnic or cultural background. What additional sensitivity should the planning include.
I have a full case writing to teach project management with it. The important thing is the party itself. You can choose any type of party. I chosen wedding because all related to stakeholder behavior is very special and it is usuful to teach project stakeholders management and change management. The important thing is to select something everyone (or most of the people) have experienced in their real life.
