No matter what you do, things can go wrong

If you work on a project where nothing has ever gone wrong, that means either you are doing something that's too easy or things are going wrong and you are ignoring them. What is your opinion?

If everything was so smooth on the project, you as a PM will just become a documentation specialist, by updating project documents, statuses and reporting on the same. At one point, they would not need you and the team themselves will plan and execute projects. It is definitely rare to see such a project. If there is one, PM does not have any contribution(that is significant)

Initial planning can not capture everything in minutest details, issues do crop up when you actually start executing tasks. And that's the reason the risk register is updated throughout the project and if some issue was not listed or imagined (unknown- unknown) it is dealt by management reserve or workaround ( if the risk was known but no response plan was made).
If everything worked as per plan with no issues, man you are lucky.
