The Capability-Outcome directories won't be included? That means OPM3 will be useless. I led the team that originally created OPM3, and we spent years developing the Capability-Outcome directories, which was what OPM3 was. The SAM self-assessment mechanism was a misguided afterthought that was foisted upon us and which doesn't work. That is explained at http://www.opmexperts.com/pmi And the book itself (originally called the "Knowledge Foundation") was merely packaging. The Capability-Outcome directories were always the heart of OPM3, and they are what is necessary in order to know what to do to move from one level of maturity to the next in OPM3. It has always been the case that you could choose to exclude Capability-Outcome strings that weren't relevant to your own organization. But without ANY of this essential content, OPM3 will remain worthless. This is explained here: http://www.opmexperts.com/opm3/ For these reasons, my firm has created an alternative model that is superior to OPM3: see http://www.opmexperts.com/simple/ It is the "Strategy Implementation Maturity Protocol for Learning Enterprises" or "SIMPLE®," an incisive framework that has been used in AT&T, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Delta Airlines, Fiserv, McKesson, Sun Trust, Verizon, Flowserve, Pentair, and many others.
Just wanted to thank you for the clear explanation on your website regarding the past and present of OPM3 and for your recent letter to the editor of PM World Journal "On the Subject of Organizational PM Maturity"
I was quite surprised and disappointed not being able to share with my students (all of them PMI Members) the OPM3 document since I find it's a great source for understanding of OPM.
