Stakeholders engagement is truly an art.In some situation, stakeholders concerns halt the project. Its the project manager responsibility to foresee the requirements of project and engage them well in time so that project schedule should not effect.

Hi Muhannad, we handle them with calmness, honesty, transparency, while alerting them of the risks to the project/product if conflicts are not resolved.

All stakeholders are not equal so analyzing and prioritizing them in advance of engaging them can help when deciding how best to facilitate their alignment.

Active listening is critical to increase your odds of understanding their interests which they will rarely tell you right away as opposed to their positions which they will be pushing for.

Tying to add something to above comments let me say that we use a method named "Solution Selling" or "SPIN Selling". You can find it into the internet. It is a selling method but it is useful to work on stakeholders needs and perception.

Agree with Kiron, stakeholder management require foresightness and interpersonal skills to handle. Catergorization of Stakeholder according to their Neutral, supporter into girid and engaged them accordingly will help the PM get good out of them

Conflicting situations do occur but can be avoided or reduced if the stakeholder analysis is done and get them involved appropriately. Analysis, could be, by using tools like Power/Interest or Influence/Impact grid etc. And if the conflicts do occur, then first thing would be to see the influence of conflict on the project, time available, stakeholders involved in conflict and whether it need to be resolved in short or long term. Then the next step would be to use common conflict resolution techniques like Withdraw, Accommodate, Reconcile, Direct/Force and Collaborate. Overall the key thing is that resolving conflicts needs inter personal skills and a clear understanding of the conflict as well as the stakeholders involved.

Stakeholders are the key to the success of any project. I agree with that engaging and managing stakeholders is an art. Alignment and progress update is always the key! Even if your stakeholder is not interested, it is project manager responsibility to update the progress and inform about projects and issues to make a decision. Minuting to the meeting with stakeholders is also an important element to ensure alignment and no false message is sent across. In conflicting situations, risks have to be well elaborated and decisions need to be formally made after involving the right stakeholder in the table to discuss and agree on the conflicting issue.
